Nestled along Washington, DC's historic Georgetown is one of the nation's most profound jazz supper clubs -Blues Alley- home to the best of jazz, star studded performances, and fine cuisine. That's exactly where CRESCENDOjazz.com caught up with Kim Cameron and the Side FX band that showcased a powerhouse performance during two packed concerts that wowed audiences from beginning to the end.
The event was in celebration of the band's latest debut CD "Contradictions." Cameron, a native Californian turned Washingtonian some 20 years ago, was thrilled to perform before exciting fans. There was alot of toe tapping, finger snapping, and sing alongs - as Cameron belted out tunes along side her long time side kick Chris Nikpora AKA "Nick" on guitar..who dazzled the stage with his electric vibe and soul inspiration. "Nick has been my collaborator on most of the material. We had such a great time at Blues Alley," said Cameron."We are so thankful to our fans," she said.

"Contradictions" has that special touch; offering varied genres of music ranging from jazz, pop, rock, country and blues. But what makes this recording so special- each tune tells a story. "The best way to talk about life is to share other people's stories," Cameron told CRESCENODjazz.com.
The first song Cameron wrote for the CD - "Never Forget" - had her brother-in-law, a cancer survivor, at heart. "This song is full of optimism and has that get up and go spirit," said Cameron. "The other sounds reflect my mood when I was writing them as well."
There's another "special" on the track listing that hits home for many Americans. It's called "My Hero," - written by Cameron after she met a U.S. Solider on an airplane. Cameron said the soldier's dedication and sacrifices to his country inspired her to write words of encouragement and thanks. "The reggae beat in "My Hero" makes sense because it sounds and feels like marching soldiers," added Cameron. "We wanted to break the beats down to show a person's spirit. We wanted to show a collision of feelings as soldiers are dedicating their lives. Then the song comes back up to reflect that these brave men and women are our heroes. At the very end, the pitch picks up with the strange feeling - to get people to think about what these soldiers do and how we should give them the credit they deserve," said Cameron.

The line up of the band is stunning and loaded with star studded talent. Matthew Berry on base, Andy Hamburger, drums, Brian Sims and Terry Marshall on keyboards, and back up vocalists - Kathy Lowell, Kimberly Gregory and Jen Francis Varre. Cameron says her band is so engaging and brings magic to the musical stories on the CD and on stage.
"I've had great success with my band members. They have embraced the music easily, and have added their on flair and flavor to each song which has been absolutely fantastic."
Kim Cameron and the Side FX Band has also recently performed at Washington DC's Cherry Blossom Festival that attracted thousands to celebrate the beauty and heritage of the city's historic line of Cherry Blossoms. The concerts, music and promotions continue for the band. Cameron calls it all a blessing. "I am having the time of my life," Cameron replied. "The content of this CD offers happiness about love and life, something special for the fans to feel and enjoy."
